Sam Bennett – Singer Songwriter
Regular visitors to this establishment will be familiar with my occasional/frequent Googlings looking for Sam-based anomalies. Today is one of those days, and I’ve stumbled upon a corker.
I’ve spent plenty of time wittering on my musical past and how I plan to resurrect it at some point (big plans, small execution) and while I’ve blatted Google a couple of times looking for any Samlike musical references, this time I stumbled on one by accident.
Sam Bennett Music turned up in a search for “Sam Bennett List” and has a rather super MySpace page in which he declares himself to be a singer/songwriter, and with all due credit to him he does appear to both sing and write “songs”. Sadly the songs in question are not to my particular taste falling into what I like to term “lift music” : straightforward singy, ballady, middle of the road stuff. Inoffensive to all, and not exactly exciting.
Far be it for me to criticise. He is doing considerably more than I, however I am very much hoping he takes me up on the offer I’ve made to him to remix his “sound” and turn it into some grindy, electro-groove, big beat stylee shit. Word.

Hey man!
This is quite surreal really. The guy you are discussing is me. Didn’t recieve your offer for a remix though… I would have taken you up on that.
True, I’m not dancy. True, I can be quite ballady. Sometimes people like that though, and it doesn’t really mean that is all I do.
If you wanna check some of my other stuff out, try Indigo Sunset… http://www.myspace.com/indigosunsettheband, or the other band I play with, High Vixons… http://www.myspace.com/highvixons .
By the way, cheers for the article, any publicity is good publicity, and I would be intruigued to hear some of your “songs”. Indeed, when you find yourself with people interested in your music with regular gig offers, give me a bell.
Much love.xxx

Hey Sam, good to see you. I fully approve of the word “songs” in your comment, easily the best way to describe the nonsense I come up with. Try the Twinkle Sisters page *points right* to have a samplette.

Nice to see you too, although I’m afraid none of the links are working for me.
So most of your work was sampled right? I’d be particularly interested to hear this 5/6 tune, mainly because 5/6 doesn’t exist, so this would be pretty remarkable. The 6 is an impossibility. It would have to be 5/4 or 5/8, and I assure you there are multiple pieces in this time signature, right back to Dave Brubeck and Take Five. Not to take anything from your stuff, I’m sure it’s grand.
Just trying to point out differences in opinions. Whereas you consider my breed of music to be middle of the road, I feel the same about dance music, which you seem to produce. I think it displays a lack of talent and creativity. I would never go out of my way to criticise a dance musician though, as I think everyone has a right to make what they feel is worthwhile.
Good luck with your future endeavours, I mean no offence by what I’ve said here.
Much love.xxx
